Stamping branches with messages
We've recently set up our factory in Whittlesea and started the huge process of welding over 3000 leaves to twigs and twigs to branches. We'll be here for the next few months slowly piecing the canopy of the Tree together.
Tone, Tobbe, Wayne and Helen with Roses for the Norwegian Sculpture
Helen and Wayne Lascelles from Panton Hill, Australia, visited Tobbe and Tone, Project Managers of our sister project, Iron Roses for Norway at their forge. Helen & Wayne have personally delivered the final roses from Australian blacksmiths to be included in the rose sculpture being constructed by Norwegian blacksmiths in memory of the lives lost in the terrible massacre last year.
Laying the trunk down where it will remain for the next few months until we're ready to attach the branches
The trunk arrives
The trunk arrives in Melbourne to be stored at Brunton Engineering who have kindly loaned us space in one of their factories. Once the intricate canopy has been constructed, it will be welded to three large branches by Alustain in Thomastown and will then come here to be welded to the trunk later this year. Overall Forge completed a beautiful and tricky piece of forging in creating our 2 tonne trunk.
Amanda and the team from Banyule Conservation Volunteers
Thanks to GDM Constructions, we have been loaned a disused factory in Whittlesea. The great people from Banyule Conservation Volunteers came in for a day to clean up and sweep the entire factory. Over the next weeks we'll be fixing the electricity and plumbing and will team up with the St Andrews Mens' Shed to build some welding benches and move our equipment in.
